USD is widely accepted in Nicaragua, but you’ll usually get change back in córdobas and the merchant’s exchange rate may not be great. Bring small, clean USD notes, and keep some córdobas for markets, buses, and small vendors.
Avoid ending up with large-denomination córdoba notes (especially C$500) because they can be hard to break. When you withdraw cash or get change, ask for smaller bills if possible.
