In Panama City, buy a Metro/Metrobús card (tarjeta) at stations and reload it as you go—it’s the easiest way to use both the subway and the city buses without fumbling for cash every ride.

Panama uses the US dollar for paper money (with Balboa coins). Bring plenty of $1–$20 bills and some coins for small purchases—many places won’t want to break $50/$100 notes.
