Burundi can have a real foreign-exchange squeeze: exchange is typically easiest via major banks in Bujumbura (or Gitega), and ATMs can be unreliable—carry some USD/EUR as a backup and convert in reputable places.

Even when ATMs work, they may dispense only Burundian francs (BIF). Plan to pay most small expenses in BIF cash, and don’t expect card acceptance to be common.
