If Jebel Akhdar (Saiq Plateau) is on your itinerary, plan for 4WD: there’s a checkpoint and access is restricted to 4x4 vehicles even though the road is paved. If you rented 2WD, park near the checkpoint and take a 4WD taxi/transfer up.

For routes like Wadi Bani Awf / Snake Canyon, don’t attempt it with a normal sedan—either rent a proper 4WD for that day or book a 4WD day tour (it’s one of the easiest ways to avoid costly mistakes).
